Rowan County, specifically High Rock Lake, is a refuge for many feathered winter visitors including the American White Pelican. These flock migrant birds are believed to be from central U.S. likely Texas, find their way to our lake each year, between October and April. A perfect viewing spot is just below the High Rock Lake dam, Tuckertown reservoir off Bringle Ferry Road.

With the holiday season behind us, New Year resolutions are top of mind, well, as least for the next few weeks. And many of us go back to the same tried and true resolutions … ‘I’m going to eat healthier; exercise more, perhaps lose weight, get my finances in order, try that new restaurant’, or perhaps clean, donate, or purge stuff gathered in our closets, front porch, or if you are feeling ambitious, perhaps the garage or for those of us that live on the lake, the boathouse?

Another year is in the books, and as many of us anticipate our fresh resolutions and the overall hope for our lives to go back to normal, (if that will ever be a thing), this blog is an opportunity to share observations from High Rock Lake with you, rather than simply looking forward with the standard New Year’s Resolutions.  Being able to enjoy lake living right here in Rowan County, on High Rock Lake year-round is a blessing.
