November is the season of being thankful. We made it through the Carolina summer heat and humidity. Now, it’s cool nights and warm days. It’s time to be thankful for our health, our family and friends, our work-life balance (hopefully), and for me… the view of High Rock Lake. Every day feels like a bit of vacation, with visitors in my peripheral, ranging from geese and eagles to jumping fish and deer. read more - https://yourrowan.com/airbnb-on-the-lake/

HOW DO YOU PREP FOR SPRING WHEN YOU LIVE ON THE LAKE?

Sand, leaves, dirt, snails, fish bones, tree limbs, and debris? Yes, if your backyard is actually on High Rock Lake.

It’s time to rake and clean the beach or shoreline, depending on the lake level. That means chain-saw activity and lots of picking up branches and logs, piling up for a lakeside bonfire.

HOW DO YOU CELEBRATE MEMORIAL DAY?

One of the cool things about lake living is that we get to meet lots of people who are using our ‘back yard’ for recreation – fishing, boating, kayaking, and more. On Memorial Day morning, I was hoping to meet and interview someone who I think is representative of the Memorial Day holiday – being thankful for our freedoms, and most of all, thankful to all that served to represent America and especially those that gave their lives and making the ultimate sacrifice.

Rowan County, specifically High Rock Lake, is a refuge for many feathered winter visitors including the American White Pelican. These flock migrant birds are believed to be from central U.S. likely Texas, find their way to our lake each year, between October and April. A perfect viewing spot is just below the High Rock Lake dam, Tuckertown reservoir off Bringle Ferry Road.
